Graduate College High Energy Physics and Particle Astrophysics

The graduate school “High Energy Physics and Particle Astrophysics” is jointly organised by the Institute of Experimental Nuclear Physics, the Institute for Theoretical Physics and the Institute for Theoretical Particle Physics. It has been inaugurated in October 2001 and provides grants for PhD students in particle and astroparticle physics. The training program covers advanced lectures, topical seminars and block courses. The graduate school further contains associate PhD students funded from other sources. In total roughly 70 PhD students use the services provided by the school. The fields of research cover a wide range of topics spanning from theoretical questions about particle physics and cosmology over methods of data analysis for running experiments to research and development of future detectors in particle and astroparticle physics. Initially the graduate school involved two scientific institutions, the University of Karlsruhe and the Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe, which have merged into the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in October 2009.
